pregnancy weight loss secrets | Is this a baby group or the X Factor

pregnancy weight loss secrets

Ahh the world of parent and baby groups.  Before having a baby, I was aware this world existed, but I have to say, they only existed in my periphery.  But, after having my daughter, I was thrust into the madness of the baby group.  Dont get me wrong, I think parent and baby groups are fantastic and I have met some lovely parents at them.  I do think you have to pick which groups work for you though, because some quite frankly are plain weird.  And just so you know, the majority come with singing.

Now, I completely understand the benefits of singing to your little one. It promotes their speech, encourages interaction and really strengthens that mother and baby bond.  There is nothing that me and daughter like doing more than putting on Mary Poppins and proceeding to dance and sing around the dog. But, my friends, there is a slight problem with my beautiful singing voice, that being, I havent got a beautiful singing voice. I cant sing.  When my daughter winced and then had a full fit of giggles as I reach my crescendo in a Spoonful of Sugar, I knew right then I had a serious problem (I think the dog howling was a little harsh).

At some groups, I manage to mime. Ive become a bit of a pro actually.   To the point where I think I could give a good show on Top of the Pops if they gave me a backing track.  At some smaller groups I whisper like a mouse or a very quiet person (which I am not).  At some groups I completely forget and as I join in with the fifth round of Happy Birthday, (theres always about 6 birthdays per week), I frustratingly wonder why it has to go up so bloody high and I hope to God the mum sitting crossed legged next to me didnt hear my rendition (she probably did and wont sit next to me again).

But then, one fateful day at a baby group, my usual tactics failed me. The lady leading the session, who I shall now refer to as Simon Cowell, went around the circle and asked parents to choose what song the group should sing.  Now this is fine and dandy if you are sat to her right.  Oh yes, this is all bloody well and good if you are sat to her right.  Yes, lets sing, twinkle twinkle, wind the bobbin, baa baa black sheep, and the list goes on.  But, there isnt a infinite amount of nursery rhyme songs.  When the woman next to me suggested Little Miss Muffet, I knew we were scraping the barrel.  And then it was my turn. What song would you like to sing?, Simon asked.  All eyes were on me.  What I would like to have said is, Youre bloody running the group, you pick the next song. But I didnt. Even my little daughter turned to watch what song her mummy would sing with baited breath.

I wracked my brains.  Ah-ha! Take this Simon I thought!! How about Down in the Jungle I said.  Everyone just continued to look at me.  I had made a fundamental error.  No-one knew the bloody song.  I had got my groups muddled up and it was another group that we sang this song at. And what did Cowell do? Did she say, Oh never mind, lets sing Twinkle Twinkle again?.  No.  No, she did not.  Oooh lets hear it, she said. I cleared my throat and what happened next was the most painful minute and a half of my life and probably everyone elses.  Im sure a few stray cats even wandered into the hall to join in at what they thought was the grand master cat screeching out a cat call.  I have never been so embarrassed or so red in my life.  Why didnt I just pick the Neighbours theme tune? At least people know that.

Needless to say we have not returned, because quite frankly, if I want to make a t*t out of myself in front of a roomful of people I will just go and audition for the X-Factor.  Take heed, dear readers. These groups are not for the faint hearted.  Either be mentally ready with every nursery rhyme ever written, oh and sit to the leaders right, or you could always just belt out, Neighbours....everybody needs good neighbours....".

Thanks for reading and I would love to hear any of your baby group disasters to make me feel a little better!

baby weight loss 5 months | Falling out of love with social media

baby weight loss 5 months

I have been very quiet on my social media pages just recently (audible gasp), and, if Im honest, Ive just really fallen a little bit out of love with it all.  As a blogger, you are meant to have your finger on all of your social media pulses, but my enthusiasm to do this has been pretty dead of late.

I actually havent even looked at my Instagram for a week now, and Twitter Ive glanced at once.  But I can honestly say, I havent really missed looking them.  Before, without really knowing I was doing it I would be checking my news feeds and before I knew it, I would be looking at some random persons outfit of the day.

Twitter really annoyed me recently, and whilst I follow some lovely people, I was getting really fed up of people following me only for me to follow them back back and then they would un-follow me.  It really feels like to some people its just a process to try and get as many followers as possible rather than actually wanting to engage and interact with others.

And then Im fretting about what Im actually tweeting.  Does anyone actually want to know that Im on my third (ok, fourth) biscuit? (Ok, ok, fifth).

And its the same on Instagram.  Looking at other peoples beautiful snaps is lovely, but then as Im sat in my pjs with toothpaste round my mouth and my hair resembling that of a birds nest, I dont always want to be reminded of other peoples luscious locks and adventures in a fairytale forest whilst they ride upon pink unicorns.  Or something like that.

I hope I dont sound bitter.  Hmmm, maybe I do and well blame it on the pregnancy hormones.  But sometimes, its nice to take a step back and disconnect from that social world.

I realise I wont be doing myself any favours with gaining new followers with this post! This really isnt an advert to follow me on my social media!! But, its the truth and this week, its how I feel.

Of course, I will be back on said social media accounts, and of course I will always love a little look at what other people are doing / up to.  But its nice to remember that life is happening right now and we dont need to tweet or instagram it to enjoy it. Sometimes its great to just be in that very moment and not tell a single other person about that beautiful sunrise you saw or delicious cake you just ate, because, well, its your secret. Just seeing it with your own eyes and experiencing is sometimes just enough.

pregnancy weight loss tumblr | My true love

pregnancy weight loss tumblr

Hello and happy Friday!  Today I thought I would share with you a new piece in my wardrobe that I am deeply in love with.  This jumper hasnt been off my back since I got it and whilst you may think I am over-exaggerating, I think friends and family have questioned if I actually own any other clothes!! Introducing, my new BFF (!), the All Saints Itat Shrug!

First of all, I adore All Saints.  I think the quality of the clothes is just amazing and very long lasting. Items wash well and are true investment pieces. I had completely fallen in love with this top when I saw it back in October, and I finally purchased it during a 20% event just before Christmas (they seem to have a 20% event most months).  I got it in the grey marl shade, but there is a dark grey, black and taupe available too. The fit is loose with quite fitted sleeves, and there is this lovely drape detail at the front where the material overlaps on itself.  But thats not all!

This is no ordinary jumper.  What I love about this top is that it turns into a cardigan too! You flick the V section behind your head and voila! A cardigan!! (And it actually looks like a lovely cardigan, it doesnt look like you have just wrapped something over your head).

The Itat shrug is still available at All Saints here and the dark grey version appears to have gone in the sale for £39! Versatile, comfy and stylish...I think my love affair with this piece will be a long one!

Thank you for reading and have a wonderful weekend!

baby weight loss success stories | Personalised Books PenWizard

baby weight loss success stories

I adore personalised gifts, so when Penwizard offered me the opportunity to review one of their personalised books, I jumped at the chance! I think personalised gifts are lovely to give, and it can make gift giving that little bit easier when you have taken the time to personalise a product.

Penwizards website is very simple and easy to use and what I particularity like is that for a number of their books you get to read a preview of what the final edit will look like.  Whilst this is very helpful, it also meant that me and my daughter spent a considerable amount of time picking our book, looking at characters and seeing what we would like if we starred in Peppa Pig!!! You can choose from titles like Peppa Pig, Ben and Holly, In The Night Garden and princess and knight books. Some books offer the personalisation through the childs name, whilst with others you can design the characters to personalise and then add a name too.

After much discussion, me and my daughter eventually chose a Peppa Pig My Daddy book and we set about with our creation! My daughter helped pick her daddys hair colour and style, facial hair and eye colour.  We did this again for my daughter, much to my daughters delight!  A few quick checks and our book was done!! I ordered the book on Thursday evening and by Saturday morning our shiny new book featuring two special characters had arrived!!!

The quality of the book is fantastic and even the little details, like a summary of the story with our personalised pictures on the back of the book is a lovely touch.  These books are amazing for any upcoming childrens birthdays or even for mums and dads from their little ones for birthdays or mothers and fathers day. You can visit the Penwizard website here and for my lovely readers I have a special 15% discount code on all orders!  Just enter the code: 5625849 at checkout to apply your discount.

This personalised book was gifted to me by Penwizard, but this review is entirely my own opinion and review of the book.  I would definitely buy again and I highly recommend their site! x

pregnancy weight loss plateau | Insta Love

pregnancy weight loss plateau

Here are some little snippets of our last couple of weeks. :)
Sam and I went to a masquerade party some friends of ours threw. It was so much fun making our masks. I used fake fall leaves, spray painted them and then arranged them for a fabulous fairy feel.

Day with leaves falling like party confetti are my favorite. This day my boys took me for a breakfast date. I loved this day, it was so simple and perfect.
We spend at least an hour outside every day exploring and playing in the leaves! The swing from when I was little now hangs from the tree in our front yard and Káel looks forward to the adventure of it every afternoon! My Gran gave it to me for Káels first birthday.

His new favorite thing to do is help me sweep our back deck and our wooden floors. Its SOOOOOO cute you guys! In this pic he is wearing the AWESOME sweater his Norwegian Auntie Lotta got him in Norway. I love it!
My little Forest and I shared our first painting experience together. It was a dream! I have been wanting to do this before I even had kids. There was some magical about having paint splatters all over us. He was in heaven, and yes his masterpiece is hanging on my wall. ;)

Spontaneous girly nights are so wonderful.
Road trip to Atlanta with my sister in law Beka required lots of gross junk food for me. I know, its disgusting, but I never eat this stuff except in moments like this. She bought me Feist tickets for an early birthday present, it was an amazing trip and so much fun.
My first time to H&M. I ended up being obsessed with the kids section and the only thing I bought was a pair of the cutest high tops for Káel. hehe

We got filmed for a new Verizion phone commercial. It was pretty awesome. We saw several film guys and security guards as we were walking around. I stopped and asked what was going on and the next thing you know they swooped us off and had a camera in our face. Earlier in the day when we were getting a bite to eat we saw Brandi (Moesha) eating at a table across the room. ha! It was the day of stardom. ;)

Feist was flawless! We were right smack dab in the front against the stage. I felt like a little kid. Her music takes me so many places. So fabulous! After the concert we headed to my sweet friend Ivelisses (Pretty Little Mustache) house for a slumber party! It was SOOOOO amazing and wonderful to get to see her and hang out a little! Love that girl so much! <3 It was a fabulous trip filled with so many wonderful moments, laughs and adventures!

pregnancy after weight loss surgery forum | The one about boobs

pregnancy after weight loss surgery forum

Ahh boobs. Theyre everywhere arent they?  Almost daily they are in the press. From a woman apparently waving them around her head in a posh restaurant whilst breastfeeding, to a woman breastfeeding in the swimming baths or maybe even the ten year old that is still breastfed. Then there are the mums who dare not to use their boobs to feed their baby. And then theres the mums that dare do.  The women whos tops are too low.  The woman who has no boobs. The woman who has huge boobs. And if you havent quite had enough of boobs yet, theres always page three where you can see pictures of them, just so you definitely know what they look like. Today, I heard on the news that the British tabloid, The Sun, are no longer going to be printing pictures of topless women on their page three, and you know what? I actually felt compelled to write a blog post to mark the occasion.

The Sun newspaper, apparently (thanks Google), has a daily circulation of around 2.2 million copies.  Thats alot of copies. Thats alot of readers.  What I find interesting is that up until this week, you could open this newspaper and see a picture of a topless woman.  And for me, it really isnt about the page three model.  If you want to model with your top off, then thats your free choice and decision. Page three to me, represented boobs as being primarily for male gratification.

I find it funny that some men (not all) are happy to stare at boobs in a newspaper, but at the same time they are agog when you use one to actually nourish and feed an infant. Especially near Nigel Farage.  And for the record, as a mum who breastfed, I can honestly say I never once stood up in a restaurant and waved them about for all to see. Quite frankly, I have no intention of showing the world my boobs, and even if I wanted to, I didnt have the time, I had a screaming baby wanting to be fed.

The same men overlook the bit about that boob providing everything a baby needs for the first six months of that little ones life.  That makes boobs pretty amazing to me. Alot more amazing than just getting them out. But its not just about breastfeeding.  Page three, to me, represents the notion that boobs are there to be leered at.  It represents those wolf whistles you get on the street, those comments when you are out and when you dont know where to look. That notion that you are just a body.  The notion that all you are is how you look.

Will this mark a change in peoples views of the female body? I think changing page three will change nothing overnight, but I hope it goes some way to society seeing the person beyond the boobs. And maybe, just maybe, it starts the way for woman to no longer be objectified by society.  That woman arent just boobs. In fact we arent just anything.

How would I even begin to explain page three to my toddler? Well, I just wouldnt. But what I do hope for my daughter is that when she is older, she can walk down the street without wolf whistles, without feeling embarrassed. I hope she can feel respected by society as the clever and intelligent girl that I know she will be.  So much more than her appearance.  And so so much more than a pair of boobs.

post pregnancy weight loss after 1 year | Tula love

post pregnancy weight loss after 1 year

At the risk of sounding like a crazy Tula lady, I decided to write a blog post on Tulas. A friend of mine was asking me about Tulas the other day and when I started explaining the different kinds {canvas, wrap conversions} and about the stockings and buy/sell/trade pages, I realized there is a lot of information to take in and that I must, indeed, sound like a crazy Tula lady. So here it goes....

{In this blog post, I am only going to discuss the Tula buckle carriers, not the ring slings or woven wraps.}

First of all, you are probably wondering what a Tula is. It is an ergonomical baby carrier, along the same lines as a Boba or an Ergo; all three of these are also in the same price point. I really like this blog post by the Happy Hippie Homemaker that explains the differences between the three, "Ergo vs Boba vs Tula carrier comparison." The blog post is biased towards Tulas, but it still does a good job showing the differences between each carrier. Why did I choose Tula? I needed a carrier that would be easy on my back and that would work well for our long babies. Tula sounded like the best option for those reasons. On top of that, I loved the pattern varieties. If Im going to wear a baby, it might as well be in a fashionable carrier that matches my wardrobe! ;)

Im not going to talk about Bobas or Ergos anymore, just Tulas. There are two different sizes of Tulas, standard and toddler. This is what the Tula website says on the sizing for a standard Tula:
• From 15 - 45 lbs
• Can be used for newborns 8 lbs+ if used with the Tula Infant Insert
This is what the Tula website says on the sizing for the a toddler Tula:
TULA Toddler Carrier is design to wear children from about 18 months (and/or about 25 pounds) to 4+ year old. We typically recommend not using the Toddler size Tula until your child reaches 32 inches or taller.
There are, however, many different types of Tulas. These come in the two different sizes, standard and toddler:
  1. Canvas
  2. Semi wrap conversion
  3. Half wrap conversion
  4. Full wrap conversion
You are like, whoa, whoa, whoa... What is a wrap conversion? Tula has a blog and they posted this guide, "Whats the difference between canvas, semi, half, and full Tulas?" That guide shows the differences between the types of Tulas much better than I could. {If you looked at that blog post and are now wondering what a woven wrap is, check out this blog post buy Where in the World is Erin? called, "The Weird and Wonderful World of Woven Wraps."}

If you are wondering about price, canvas Tulas are much less expensive than a wrap conversion. Wrap conversions tend to come in far more beautiful colors and designs, though there are still a lot of pretty canvas prints {I have a canvas Tula that I love!}. Why are wrap conversions so much more expensive? Because you are paying for the price of the Tula plus the price of the wrap conversion that adorns your Tula. You are also buying a limited quantity product. There are often only a handful {and maybe only one!} of any given wrap conversion, whether it be semi, half, or full.

But do they work the same? Yes, they do work the same. I have a semi wrap conversion and a canvas Tula. I dont notice much of a difference between the two. There is a lot of debate on Tula boards whether wrap conversions give more support or not. I sometimes think that the semi wrap conversion does give more structure and support, but then I wear my canvas and it is so easy to wear and I think it is just as supportive... I know that isnt a very good answer, so go back to the straight answer: they do work the same. :)

Why would you buy a wrap conversion over a canvas if they work the same? Basically because they are beautiful. There are some gorgeous drool-worthy wrap conversions. I would absolutely love to own the entire collection! I love that Tula makes ergonomical baby wearing beautiful.

So now you are thinking, yes, Im ready. I know which kind of Tula I want to buy, lets go buy it! Well... theres a few tips and tricks to buying a Tula.

The website has several canvas Tulas always in stock. Check out these links for "standard Tula" and "toddler Tula." Tula will often release new prints for canvas, probably about every month or so. If they sell out of a popular print, they will have a restocking for those prints fairly often. On the other hand, they often switch up their inventory, so if there is a canvas print you love, it might be a good idea to snatch it up in case they stop carrying it. The best way to find out about new prints and canvas stockings is on Tulas Facebook page.

Wrap conversions are a different story. If you notice on their webpage when you scroll over the "Shop" tab, the wrap conversion link says, "Wrap conversions-- sold out." If you click on that link, you will see pages and pages of beautiful wrap conversions, none of which are in stock. Wrap conversions are stocked in, basically, a flash sale style. A fairly small selection of wrap conversions {a mix between semi, half, and full wrap conversions in standard and toddler sizes} gets stocked on the Tula webpage every two weeks, mostly on Sundays. On Friday and Saturday, Tula will post previews of the stocking on their Facebook page. The stocking may include only what is on those previews or it may include even more beautiful wrap conversions. Shortly before the stocking goes live, Tula posts the wrap conversions on their webpage. Instead of the tab that says "Wrap conversions-- sold out" under "Shop," there are two new links: "Wrap conversions standard" and "Wrap conversions toddler." My mom and I got online for a stocking one time and watched all the wrap conversions sell out in twenty minutes, standard and toddler. When the link goes live for purchasing, the Tulas go fast.

All right, you are thinking. Im ready for a stocking! But the link went live and you didnt score. Now how do you get a wrap conversion? Or a no longer carried canvas?

My best tip is Facebook. If you look up local baby wearing buy/sell/trade pages to you, you may find a Tula pop up on there. There is also a huge Tula buy/sell/trade page that is very active and has strict page guidelines.

If you go on those pages, youll notice that most of those wrap conversions are being sold well over retail prices, some of them nowhere near retail prices. Why is that? Because a lot of those wrap conversions are very hard to find. As I said before, some of them are the one and only and some are made with beautiful and also hard to find woven wraps. If you are looking to score a wrap conversion near retail on the buy/sell/trade Facebook page, my best tip is turn on all notifications for the group and stalk it. It may take time, but there are good deals and wrap conversions sold near retail. They are snatched up fast so be vigilant {and Pay Pal ready}. Keep stalking the buy/sell/trade pages and you definitely can score a wrap conversion for close to retail.

As for scoring a canvas on a buy/sell/trade page, Id be wary about paying over retail unless it is a print you have to have. You might have your reasons for paying over retail for a canvas Tula, but it probably wont hold its value at over retail. The only exception, obviously, being an out of print canvas, but, even then, I would be hesitant to pay much over retail for even that.

Well, Facebook buy/sell/trade pages arent for me, you might be thinking. Where can I buy these in store? Wrap conversions you will most likely not be able to buy in a store outside of a Tula stocking. There are *few* wrap conversions sold anywhere else and most of those are up for giveaways or drawings or chance to buys... Not just walking in to a store and seeing a lovely half wrap conversion and thinking, "My, Ill buy that one..." There are a lot of stores that carry canvas Tulas, especially local baby boutiques. If you are on the Facebook page Tula Love, there is a whole document in the Files section called, "Tula Retailers." {That link will not work for you unless you are a member of the group Tula Love.}

Note: Tula Love also has several other useful files, like tips for scoring in a stocking and deciphering the acronyms on the buy/sell/trade pages and tips on whether you need a standard or toddler size for your child.

Now that you have found your Tula and bought your Tula, what else do you need? My recommendation is to wait on buying the infant insert. There is a chance you will not need it, even with a newborn. Our baby #4 was a large baby and very long. I was able just to tuck his legs into the Tula and carry him that way. When he was finally too long to wear that way, a friend recommended rolling a blanket under his bottom. This picture of putting a blanket under the newborn is shared on the baby wearing pages:

There is also a world of accessories you can add to your Tula: suck pads, drool pads, hoodies... You can get your Tula customized, such as this site, "Pimp my carrier" or at PaxBaby. My recommendation, again, wait. You may want suck pads; you may not. Wait until you decide if you need them/want them. Another tip: if you are concerned about the resale value of your Tula, a customized Tula will probably not sell for what you paid to customize it. Still want a customized Tula? Consider a cover to pull over yours without affecting the resale value. Want everyone to know how much you love your Tula? Maybe you need a Tula decal.

Why is everyone so crazy about Tula? I dont consider myself a hardcore babywearer. I like baby wearing because it lets me keep up with my older three children without pushing a stroller {even our fabulous Baby Jogger City Select}. It gives me the freedom to do things around the house without having to balance a baby as well. I homeschool, clean house, make dinner, and write while putting our Tula to work. I even went to a painting class with my girlfriends while wearing baby #4 in our Tula. I dont always wear baby #4. I put our baby products to good use-- our swing, bouncey seat, high chair, and stroller-- but there are times when he just wants up, especially since with three older siblings hes already caught two colds. As for the Tula love, I dont know, but I got it too. I always give a shout out to someone I see wearing a Tula. They are pretty carriers. I was over the moon when I scored our semi wrap conversion. I think Tula has magic dust, like Disney, and so it is easy to obsess. :)

??
?

Do you have any Tula tips to share? Or a baby carrier that you love? How has baby wearing made your life easier?
